Both Tello and Jimenez Molina were passengers in a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon driven by the New York woman. The Hyundai had been disabled in the left lane, facing oncoming traffic after crashing into a guardrail in the right shoulder, according to police. Molina and/or Tello (listed on the police report as a "passenger") may have left the Hyundai after the crash to stand by the car's side.
A 2021 Lexus RX, driven by a 55-year-old Avon man in the left lane, struck the Hyundai, which spun into the path of a 2024 Frontliner Cascadia tractor-trailer, causing another collision. Neither the Avon motorist nor the truck driver, a 55-year-old Florida man, were injured, according to the state police.
