Arrest Made In Slaying Of Danbury Man Found In NY Reservoir

DANBURY, CT — Police over the weekend announced they have arrested a New York man for the slaying of a 66-year-old Danbury resident.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the homicide of Aurelio Zhunio-Orbez, who had been reported missing to Danbury police on Dec. 1. His body was found Dec. 7 in the Croton Falls Reservoir in Carmel, New York.

Sheriff Brian Hess said police arrested Santos Vasquez Ramirez, 28, of Pawling, New York on Dec. 12 outside his residence.

Vasquez Ramirez has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

The victim’s livery cab was stolen during the crime, according to investigators.

According to police, Vasquez Ramirez confessed to the crimes during questioning. Following his arrest, Vasquez Ramirez was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court in New York.

Hess and the sheriff’s office extended condolences to the victim’s family.

“Mr. Orbez was a hardworking member of the community, and our thoughts remain with his loved ones as this case proceeds through the justice system,” police said.
