Daily Bread To Provide Thanksgiving Meals To Up To 900 Danbury Families This Week
Daily Bread Food Pantry begins its two-day Thanksgiving distribution in Danbury, providing holiday meals to hundreds of families.

DANBURY, CT — Daily Bread Food Pantry opened its annual two-day Thanksgiving distribution Monday at its new site at 125 Park Ave., where volunteers provided holiday meals to local families facing food insecurity.
The drive-through event, staffed by several dozen volunteers, offered produce including apples, squash, onions and potatoes, along with traditional holiday staples such as stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, gravy and fresh pumpkin and apple pies. Large frozen turkeys were the centerpiece of each meal package.
A student band from Danbury High School performed during the distribution, and Santa greeted families as vehicles moved through the line. Pantry officials told Patch the event arrives at a challenging time for many households experiencing reductions in government food assistance programs and tighter eligibility requirements.

Daily Bread expects to serve about 900 families across the two-day event, with several hundred more visitors anticipated Tuesday. Officials thanked donors and volunteers for supporting the holiday program.
The nonprofit’s volunteer-run “super pantry,” which opened earlier this year, now serves about 1,000 families weekly with free access to fresh food. With declining government-supplied inventory and continued demand, pantry leaders say operating costs continue to rise.
