The residents of Danbury deserve a mayor whose sole focus is the prosperity and well-being of our city. Mayor Roberto Alves’s recent election as Chairman of the Connecticut State Democratic Party raises serious concerns about his ability to fulfill his obligations to Danbury.

On January 22, 2025, Mayor Alves assumed the role of Chairman for the Connecticut State Democratic Party, a position that demands overseeing political operations across all 169 towns and cities in the state. This significant responsibility directly conflicts with the Danbury City Charter, which mandates that “The Mayor shall devote full time to the office and shall be directly responsible for the administration of all departments, agencies and offices in charge of persons or boards appointed by the Mayor and shall supervise and direct the same.” Mayor Alves may also be in violation of the City’s Code of Ethics, which outlines actions that constitutes an unfaithfulness to public office.
“Danburians should not be forced to accept a part time leader who now must divide his attention between running our city and managing a statewide political agenda. The critical challenges our community faces—ranging from infrastructure improvements to education, public safety, lower taxes, and economic development—demand a mayor and his staff who are fully invested in Danbury’s future, not one whose priorities are split. Danbury deserves better." said Danbury Councilman and RTC Chairman Michael Coelho.

“Our city deserves dedicated leadership focused solely on the well-being of Danbury residents, not part-time governance driven by political ambition. The people of Danbury elected a mayor, not a politician looking to climb the political ladder at their expense" added Danbury Councilman Irving Fox.
The Danbury Republican Town Committee will continue to act as a watchdog for our city and continue to shine a light on the Mayor and his administration when they fail to uphold their oath of office by serving every resident of our city in good faith and action.
