Danbury Awarded $4M WestCOG Grant For Streetscape Renaissance Project

Danbury has tapped into a $4 million grant to help fund Phase II of its Downtown Streetscape Project.

DANBURY, CT — The City of Danbury has been awarded $4 million in Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program funding for its Streetscape Renaissance Project.

Phase I of the project, designed in part to make Danbury more pedestrian-friendly with upgrades to sidewalks, lighting and other improvements, was completed in spring 2022.

LOTCIP provides state funding for a variety of municipal transportation capital improvements, including bridge rehabilitation and replacement; road reconstruction; intersection improvements; traffic signals; streetscapes; sidewalks; multi-use trails; and pedestrian bridges. The program is administered cooperatively by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and regional governance councils.

"This $4 million LOTCIP grant from WestCOG is another incredible win for Danbury," Mayor Alves said in a news release. "It will allow us to continue our work to transform our streetscapes, creating the kind of vibrant, walkable Main Street and downtown that drives economic growth and enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. This is a major step in our plan to create a stronger, more connected future for Danbury."
