Danbury Library To Teach Kids How To Make Colonial Delicacy

The unique food program taking place next week is in line with America 250 celebrations.

DANBURY, CT — Rarely does a trip to the local library make one hungry for food.

Hungry for knowledge? Yes. Hungry for food? Rarely.

But the Danbury Public Library next week is hosting a children's program in line with America 250 commemorations that will both educate and fill the stomach.

The library, located at 170 Main St., is hosting "Make Your Own Johnny Cakes," that classic, simple corn-based food staple that dates back to the earliest days of the country's history.

It will take place Monday, Jan. 12, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the library, with pre-registration required.

Especially designed for children aged 7-10, "Make Your Own Johnny Cakes" will demonstrate how to make Johnny Cakes and a classic apple fritter using techniques from the colonial era.

The event will take place in the lower-level meeting room at the library.
