Danbury Man Receives 30-Month Federal Sentence Following Fentanyl Trafficking

A Danbury man was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after investigators seized more than 2.8 kilograms of fentanyl.

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl following an investigation by federal and local law enforcement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut announced Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill imposed the sentence on Jairo Abreu, 33, who will also serve one year of supervised release. Abreu has been ordered to report to prison on Jan. 15 and is currently free on a $100,000 bond.

According to federal prosecutors, an investigation by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and the Hartford Police Department found Abreu was trafficking fentanyl into Hartford. He was arrested on state charges on Oct. 17, 2023. A search of his residence in Danbury that same day uncovered approximately 2.8 kilograms of fentanyl and about 2,000 wax sleeves containing the drug.

Abreu was taken into federal custody on Feb. 23, 2024, and pleaded guilty on April 25.

The task force includes members of the Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester, New Britain and West Hartford police departments, as well as the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Department of Correction.
