Danbury Police Department to Hold Citizen's Police Academy

The Danbury Police Department will review laws of arrest, penal code, patrol procedures, crime scene investigation and more.

DANBURY, CT — The Danbury Police Department is holding an 11-week Citizen’s Police Academy this September. The Citizen Police Academy is offered twice a year in the winter/spring and the second session in the summer/autumn. There is no participation fee associated with attending the Citizen’s Police Academy.

The course is intended to give individuals the opportunity to learn more about the operations of their police department, police procedures, and to foster enhanced understanding and cooperation between the police and the community they serve. The Danbury Police Department’s objective is to provide interactive instruction in many basic police department tasks as well as provide an opportunity for individuals to role-play and have hands on experience with the tools of the police trade.

The Citizen’s Police Academy requires a commitment of one night per week for eleven weeks. The sessions will begin on Tuesday evening September 13, 2016, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and continue every Tuesday evening thereafter until November 22, 2016.

“The mission of the Citizen’s Police Academy is to foster an enhanced understanding and cooperation between the department and the community that we serve. The program is not intended to make citizens into police officers but rather to heighten the awareness of both the public and police in an effort to develop a working partnership between the two. Our objective is to provide interactive instruction in many basic police department tasks as well as provide an opportunity for individuals to role play and have hands on experience with the tools of the police trade.”

Interested applicants should pick up an application at the Danbury Police Department, 375 Main Street. The academy will be limited to 25 participants on a first come/ first serve basis.
