Danbury Police Log: Crack, Burglary, Probation

The following information was provided by the Danbury Police Department. A person charged with a crime is innocent until convicted in court.

Danbury Police charged Robert Sterling Cherry, 42, Hospital Avenue, with driving with a suspended license and failing to stop at a stop sign Friday at about 6:41 p.m. Police said Cherry was sweating and nervous, and when he climbed out of the car, police said his hand was clenched. When he opened his hand, a small paper fold fell to the ground. Inside was a white powder substance. In the cup holder in the center console, police found a glass pipe with a copper mesh inside called Choir Boy brand, a brand found in grocery stores used for scrubbing pots. Police found crack cocaine. Cherry was also charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on a $5,000 bond.

In a separate incident, said the Community Conditions Unit, working in the Mill Ridge Public Housing project saw Gabriel Grenier, 29, of Mill Ridge Drive, drive by. Police knew they had an outstanding warrant for Grenier and pulled him over. Grenier was charged with violation of probation and held on a $10,000 bond. In addition to that, Grenier was held on a second warrant charging him with second-degree failure to appear, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $5,000 bond for those charges.

In a separate incident, a man and woman sleeping in their Park Avenue apartment were awakened at 4 a.m. Sunday when a man started banging on their front door. The children woke the parents, and the wife opened the door and the man pushed his way inside. When the husband confronted the man, he fled, and neighbors chased him. He was caught minutes later by the police. Freddie Chacon, 24, of City Streets, was charged with second-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit second-degree burglary, criminal trespass and criminal attempt to commit trespass.
