Danbury Public Schools Names New Leadership

Danbury schools name Alison Breedy-Johnson associate superintendent to help expand career-focused Academies program.

DANBURY, CT — Danbury Public Schools has appointed Alison Breedy-Johnson as the district’s new associate superintendent of teaching and learning, a role central to advancing the district’s Academies model of career-focused education.

Breedy-Johnson, an attorney who began her career as an elementary school teacher in New York City, has served as a principal, deputy superintendent, and most recently, executive director of leadership development in Norwalk Public Schools. There, she coached principals, spearheaded curriculum projects, and developed professional learning programs for school leaders.

She also spent more than eight years leading a law-focused high school campus, where she created partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies to connect students with real-world learning opportunities. That background, district officials said, makes her well positioned to strengthen Danbury’s Academies program, which links high school students with pathways in fields such as health sciences, information technology, business, and public service.

The Academies of Danbury, launched in 2024, are designed to give students hands-on experiences, internships, and coursework aligned with local and regional workforce needs. Breedy-Johnson will help ensure classroom instruction connects with those pathways while supporting educators with training and resources.

“Having previously served as the assistant superintendent, I understand how deeply complex and challenging this work can be,” Superintendent Kara Casimiro said. “I believe Alison is that special leader who not only knows the work, but understands the challenges of implementing change that truly impacts the teaching experience for educators and the learning experience for children.”
