Danbury School Nurse Wins Statewide Award
She has served the Great Plain Elementary School for 20 years.

DANBURY, CT — A local school nurse has been recognized as a leader in her field by a statewide organization. Great Plain Elementary school nurse Ellen Calle has been recognized as a Peer Leader by the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut, according to an announcement from the Danbury Public Schools. Calle has served the Great Plain Elementary School for 20 years, and her children went to Danbury Schools.
"Ellen Calle demonstrates all the qualities of an exceptional school nurse. In addition to being a highly knowledgeable and skilled nurse, Ellen’s calm demeanor, kindness and compassion are reflected in the welcoming environment of her school health office,” said Kathleen O’Dowd, health and nursing services coordinator for Danbury Public Schools in a statement. “Ellen leaves an impression on students and families even after they leave Great Plain School.”
The district said she will be recongized at the ASNC's annual spring meeting on May 10, National School Nurses Day.

“I love the kids. I love the families,” Calle said. “An educational setting is very different: the goal is education and making sure the kids are healthy and have access to resources.”
