DANBURY, CT —Plans to expand the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) into Danbury are moving forward, with funding secured for a new demonstration trail at Tarrywile Park, the organization announced this week.

The Danbury Tarrywile Demonstration Trail, currently in the design phase, is one of several key projects in the pipeline as NRVT works toward completing its 30-mile multi-use trail connecting Norwalk, Wilton, Ridgefield, Redding, and Danbury. Other upcoming projects include the Ridgefield Ramble, which will extend through woodlands along Route 7, and the Wilton Loop North, adding another mile to the growing network.

These developments come as NRVT undergoes a leadership transition, with Luke Garvey elected as the organization’s new president. Garvey, an active community leader, takes over from Charlie Taney, who will remain involved as immediate past president.

“The NRVT is an idea whose time has come,” Taney said, highlighting a $5.6 million federal grant secured last year to support long-term expansion, including a future connection from Danbury to Brewster, N.Y., linking to the Empire State Trail.

In addition to trail expansion, NRVT is awaiting word on a capital grant to connect the Wilton section of the trail to the Merritt 7 Metro-North station in Norwalk, improving accessibility for commuters.
