Danbury Woman Killed on White Street at Lee Hartell Drive

Danbury Police are investigating the late-night death of a Danbury woman driving on White Street early Friday morning.

Danbury Police identified the driver killed in a car crash early Friday morning as 19-year-old Melyssa Carvalho of Beaverbrook Road, Danbury. Police said Carvalho hit a concrete barrier at the corner of White Street and Lee Hartell Drive.

Police said they received word of the accident at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.

"The operator, (now identified as Melyssa Carvalho, 19, of Beaverbrook Road) was operating a 2001 Ford Focus. She was traveling westbound on White St., at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed over Lee Hartell Dr. striking the concrete barrier. The force of the impact deflected the Ford Focus northbound on Lee Hartell Dr. were it came to final rest," the department said in a prepared release.

It continued, "The operator was extricated by Danbury Fire Department, and was transported to Danbury hospital, where she had succumbed to her injuries. The passenger, Javier Adams, of Danbury was transported to Danbury Hospital for injuries sustained in the collision. Information about the collision or, witnesses please contact Sgt.
