Federal Judge Rules On Ganim Bid For Campaign Funds: Reports
Ganim tried to challenge a law preventing convicted felons from receiving public campaign funds.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — If Mayor Joe Ganim hopes to make a run at the governor's office, he'll have to do so without access to public campaign funds, according to multiple media reports. Federal Judge Michael Shea ruled that Ganim is not eligible for public campaign funds because of his criminal record, reports the CT Mirror.
Ganim had filed a lawsuit against the State Elections Enforcement Commission, in effort to challenge the law that bars anyone convicted of a crime from receiving funding. Ganim has formed an exploratory committee for statewide office, and has the option to appeal to a higher court.
The two-term mayor of the state's largest city has not announced his next move, but the CT Mirror reported he seemed doubtful of an appeal.

He added he expects to decide in January about his plans to go forward with his campaign.
Ganim has raised nearly $150,000 through an exploratory committee, and must raise $250,000 in donations between $5 and $100. Ninety percent of the money must come from in-state donors.
