I-84 Truck Fire Sunday

The Danbury Fire Department responded to a truck fire a few minutes after noon Sunday.

Danbury Fire Department Assistant Chief Bernie Meehan released the following information Sunday about a fire on I-84 at about 12:45 p.m.

Meehan reported, "The Danbury Fire Department was notified of a truck fire on Interstate 84 in the Westbound lane near Exit 2. Upon arrival, Fire Units found a Tractor Trailer, with a 53 foot long box, issuing heavy fire from under the trailer. The trailer contained the entire belongings of a family being moved from Massachusetts to Texas. Quick work by Danbury Firefighters saved all the contents of the trailer. The Connecticut State Police were able to keep one lane open during the fire, but the highway became very backed up and traffic was slowed considerably. The fire department operated with 3 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 2 Tankers, and One Squad company. Firefighters had to remove about 1/4 of the cargo load to ensure there was no fire extension into the trailer. The Incident Commander was Asst Chief Bernie Meehan.
