Immaculate eSports Team Wins State Championship

Immaculate High School in Danbury took home the State eSports Championship in MarioKart.

DANBURY, CT — Immaculate High School's eSports Team took home the State Championship in MarioKart during the finals at Quinnipiac University this month, scoring a decisive victory against Sheehan High School of Wallingford.

Gamers from high schools all over the state participated in the event, which included Rocket League, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Quinnipiac hosts the CIAC eSport tournament every year.

"Winning the first eSports Championship in Immaculate's history is a groundbreaking experience," said Captain Ryan Beverly of Bethel. "We're all extremely proud of our accomplishments and excited for what the future holds for us."

The online sport has been rapidly growing at both the high school and college levels.

"I am so proud of our team for their dedication and it definitely paid off when we won this championship," said Immaculate eSports Coach David Quesnell said in a news release. "We practice and train just like any other sports team and this is a huge accomplishment."
