Letter: In Support Of Robert Alves For Danbury Mayor
"Mr. Alves has also gone on record that he wishes to increase funds to police for raises and training..."
To The Editor:
Where I Stand
Trying to move beyond the Covid era can be disastrous or very beneficial. So much depends on the leaders we vote into office. One thing we have learned is that many of us are ignorant as to the meaning of words and numbers. This is why we have to have people we can trust and believe when we vote for our leaders. This usually means a person whom is open and above board, educated, willing to admit if errors are made, and especially , know who ( or what) to turn if they need help.

I am going to vote for Roberto Alves for mayor for a number of reasons ( as an educator, I will tell you education is foremost). I do not take stands lightly. I research as much I can. In this case I listened to YouTube interviews from both candidates. I’ve read the various mailings that have been sent out by both candidates. I then make up list of things that I can accurately attribute to both candidates and see how the facts lineup. Both originally raised in Danbury. Both graduated from high school in Danbury. Both were Democrats and both ran for office as Democrats. Mr. Esposito lost to former Mayor Boughton and then became a Republican. Mr. Alves won as a Democrat and still is a Democrat. Mr. Esposito was hired by Mayor Boughton and still works for the city of Danbury.
Mr. Alves and his family still reside in Danbury. Mr. Esposito moved to Brookfield and still lives there (although he has stated if he wins he will move to Danbury). He Alves has children going to public school in Danbury. Therefore he has a vested interest in education in Danbury. Mr. Esposito’s children graduated from Brookfield schools, but he also says he wants to help education in Danbury. Mr. Esposito says he has always avored the proposed Career Academy in Danbury ( Mr. Alves also does and has voted for this). This academy will be primarily financed with state money, so it’s a win-win. He Alves has stated he is also for helping out the existing schools.

Mr. Alves has also gone on record that he wishes to increase funds to police for raises and training. In fact, Mr. Alves voted against a budget that lessened the amount of money going to the police.
Danbury is the seventh largest municipality in Connecticut ( actually has more public school children than the sixth largest, Norwalk). Danbury is actually larger than 16 of the state capitals in the US ( it’s about the size of Trenton , NJ and in much Mr. Esposito claims that Mr. Alves wants to run Danbury like a city and not a small town. Danbury is a city. Brookfield has a 30.1 mill rate, Danbury 27.6, Stamford 26.35, New Canaan, 18.16 and Greenwich, 11.59. You do the math.
If Mr. Esposito expresses his love for Danbury, why did he move to a town that has a mill rate 8% higher than Danbury? Why did he not send his children to Danbury schools? Why did he say that he will only move to Danbury if he wins the election.
This is why I plan to vote for Roberto Alves.
