Letter: In Support of Roberto Alves For Danbury Mayor
"This is the type of old-school politics that has made the stink emanating from city hall so strong for the last two decades..."
To The Editor:
Last year, Danbury won national notoriety after drawing some (seemingly unprovoked) ire from HBO’s John Oliver. The verbal, mostly in jest, an altercation led to Danbury’s sewer plant being named after the British comedian. So, as of now, Danbury is best known for our, er, waste. And yet, given that our city’s leadership has been full of “it” for the past twenty years, this doesn’t seem entirely inappropriate to me. I, for one, want a no-B.S. mayor who tells it like it is; I will be voting for City Councilman Roberto Alves in the upcoming mayoral election.
Roberto is an honest, straightforward broker. Unlike his Republican opponent, Dean Esposito, Roberto has not spent his career in politics. He has served on the city council since 2019 -- long enough to know what needs fixing, but not so long that he has bought into a fixed system.

We need to be able to trust that our mayor has Danbury’s best interests at heart. Recently, it came out that Dean Esposito doesn’t even live in Danbury. Esposito said, however, that he would move here full-time if he gets elected. Is it too much to ask that we have a mayor who lives in Danbury or wants to live here?
This is the type of old-school politics that has made the stink emanating from city hall so strong for the last two decades. I’m ready for Danbury to wash our hands of this backroom style of politics. And so is Roberto. Finally, we can have a mayor who will clean up the mess at city hall, and bring in an era of clean government.
