To The Editor:

I’m a retired 26 years U.S. Air Force Veteran, I own Rumors Coffeehouse on Mill Plain Road, and I can tell you that there is no Danbury without Danbury small businesses. Councilman Roberto Alves has a plan to put small businesses first and that is why I am voting for him for Mayor of Danbury on November 2nd.

I know Roberto, and I can tell you that he knows firsthand the ins and outs of operating a small business here in Danbury, as his parents were also small business owners. The Alves family personifies what is possible for any family in Danbury. Roberto’s knowledge of the challenges small businesses face makes him the perfect candidate to transform City Hall’s approach to helping and handling business in Danbury.

Investing in small businesses means investing in our local infrastructure. Roberto wants to make historic investments in Danbury’s roads and bridges because he recognizes that those types of investments end up paying for themselves in the long run. Smoother transit and roads that are built up to withstand the harsh weather that sometimes falls on our city allows business to continue and thrive no matter what Mother Nature throws at us. Roberto also wants to implement new tax incentive programs made available to small businesses and commercial real estate developers who commit to property enhancements and create jobs in Danbury.

And the efforts won’t stop there. Bolstering our office of Business Advocacy, streamlining the distribution of COVID relief funds, and creating a commercial real estate vacancy portal for prospective businesses owners — all of this is possible, but only with the right leadership. I am voting for Councilman Roberto Alves for Mayor on November 2nd because he understands that when our community’s small businesses succeed, we all succeed.
