Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Austin Monteiro, Candidate, of Austin Monteiro for State Representative District 110.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Austin Monteiro: The main platform for Monteiro's campaign is "the revival of the Danbury dream." Monteiro grew up and went to school in Danbury, and owned CrossFit Danbury a gym in town for a decade. His family has a strong presence in Danbury, too. His great grandfather started a plumbing business in the 110th district in 1940 that his father currently runs. His other grandfather was a Police Detective in Danbury for 29 years, hence the strong focus on law and order in Monteiro's campaign. Unfortunately, Monteiro has seen too many changes for the worse in his hometown, especially thanks to Godfrey who has been in office for 36 years now. Monteiro recalls how safe and affordable Danbury was back in the 90's, and what a terrific place it was to live and run a business. But not so much anymore. He also touched on the importance of retaining local zoning controls, and pushing back against the dreaded Work-Live-Ride bill that aims to stuff affordable housing around transit centers.

Austin Monteiro: I After the State's mismanagement and failure of the Covid pandemic, I got involved in local politics. We are now seeing all the negative consequences of our government's mismanagement from loss of learning to affordability issues, cost of living increases, crime and businesses that have closed.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Austin Monteiro: An ounce of action is worth more than a ton of talk. I believe in doing the work that is required to reach as many people as possible.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Austin Monteiro: The most satisfying part of my work is engaging with the people of Danbury and building community through unity. What will be even more satisfying is being able to put policy into action that will make Danbury the best town in Connecticut.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Austin Monteiro: Hardwork and authenticity. People are starving for authentic and real people in these positions.
