Man Living In Danbury, Already Convicted And Deported, Charged With Illegally Re-entering U.S.
A foreign national taking up residence in Danbury has been charged with illegally re-entering the U.S. after being previously deported.
DANBURY, CT — David X. Sullivan, United States attorney for the District of Connecticut, said Thursday that a foreign national living in Danbury has been charged with illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported.
On Oct. 15, a federal grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment charging Carlos Cabrera-Zaruma, 45, a citizen of Ecuador residing in Danbury, with illegally re-entering the U.S. after being deported.
According to court documents and statements made in court, in 2008, Cabrera-Zaruma was convicted and sentenced in Connecticut Superior Court of sexual assault in the second degree against a victim younger than 16, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to case records, he was deported to Ecuador in September 2010.
Cabrera-Zaruma then unlawfully re-entered the U.S. and returned to Connecticut, Sullivan said.

He has been detained since his arrest on Oct. 7.
The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that "marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime."
