Mayor Alves recently claimed “historic increases” in education funding and touted the opening of DHS West as proof of progress. But the facts, and the outcomes, tell a different story.

In the most recent city budget, the Mayor pulled $9 million from Danbury’s reserve fund and raised taxes to cover education costs. Even with those measures, he still failed to fully fund the Board of Education’s request, breaking a promise he made to voters two years ago.

And what did taxpayers get in return? According to the latest independent report, Danbury’s education system earned a C+. That’s not progress, it’s stagnation. Despite millions in new spending, student outcomes remain unchanged, and our educators are still being asked to do more with less.

Let’s be clear: investing in education isn’t just about ribbon-cuttings and press releases. It’s about results. It’s about transparency. And it’s about keeping promises.
