Obituary: Robert Eric Lord, 93, Of Danbury

Bob was a labor relations manager who specialized in negotiating labor contracts. He had a long and successful career working for Texaco.

DANBURY, CT — Robert Eric Lord, 93, of Danbury, beloved husband of the late Lydia (Hoffmann) Lord, died at Danbury Hospital on Monday, April 8, 2024. He was born in the Bronx on Aug. 14, 1930, son of the late Eric I. and Marion C (Sperzel) Lord. He attended and graduated from Manhattan College, while paying his way working summer construction jobs.

Bob was drafted into the US Army and stationed in Berlin, Germany. It was there that he met a local German woman whom he would marry. Upon discharge, Bob and Lydia returned to the US where he had a long successful career working for Texaco, first in the Chrysler Building, then in Ghana, West Africa, followed by years in Houston and finally back to New York in Westchester County. Bob was a labor relations manager who specialized in negotiating labor contracts.

Bob had many interests: traveling, rock collecting, astronomy, history, aviation, classical music, reading, solving crossword puzzles, feeding wild birds, woodworking, debating about politics and he even did some oil paintings. Later in life, he became a pretty good cook! His primary interest in life was guiding and taking care of the people he loved.

He will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Patricia Lord, and Janice Bumbaco and her husband, Dominick; his four grandchildren, Daniel, Karin, Robert, and Emily; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion, Mary Lou Heyel and her family.

He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Edward Lord.

Funeral services celebrating the lives of both Bob and his wife, Lydia, who predeceased him in 2011, will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, April 12th at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, New Milford.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning between 10:00am – 11:30 a.m.
