'For The People' Marks International Women's Day In Danbury With Rally
A large crowd gathered in downtown Danbury on Saturday for the "For The People" March and Rally

DANBURY, CT – A large crowd gathered in downtown Danbury on Saturday for the For The People March and Rally, an event held in recognition of International Women’s Day. Participants walked down Main Street to CityCenter Green, where speakers and musical performances focused on themes of civic engagement, equality, and democracy.
The event began at 11 a.m. with a march through downtown, as attendees carried signs and chanted slogans in support of collective action. The rally commenced at noon at CityCenter Green, featuring remarks from speakers and performances by local musicians.
Joanne Moore, co-president of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, addressed the crowd, highlighting the importance of non-partisan participation in democracy. Other speakers emphasized civic involvement, protecting democratic values, and working together to promote equality and strengthen the rule of law.

Live music performances by members of Walkabout Clearwater Chorus and For The People Band were also part of the program. In a news release, organizers described the event as an opportunity to bring together community members around shared principles.
"We are incredibly moved by the strong turnout and the passion displayed at today’s rally,” said Lisa Del Sesto of We Are Women Rising, one of the event’s co-sponsors. “The people of Danbury and Western Connecticut remain committed to protecting rights and strengthening democracy.”

The event was co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, We Are Women Rising, Latinos for Educational Advocacy and Diversity (LEAD), and the League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County. Other participating organizations included The Center for Empowerment & Education, The New American Dream Foundation, and CT 50501.
