WCSU to Host Interdisciplinary Research Panel Discussion on Nov. 15

DANBURY, CONN. - Western Connecticut State University will host Scholars in Action, a panel discussion featuring recent scholarship by faculty, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Room 102 of Warner Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The topic, "Interdisciplinary Research Connections: Code Breakers and Code Makers," will be addressed by Distinguished Professor of Writing, Linguistics & Creative Process Dr. Edward Hagan; Professor of Mathematics Dr. Charles Rocca; and Associate Professor of Management Information Systems Dr. Paul Nugent. Professor of Communication and Media Arts Dr. Bill Petkanas will moderate.

Hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs, the event will include a panel discussion and a reception. The event will be an interdisciplinary conversation drawing connections between recent scholarship by WCSU faculty.

Hagan has focused on contemporary Irish and American fiction and essay writing. He is particularly interested in what literary trends tell us about contemporary consciousness.

Nugent's research focuses on the sociology of engineering work, the philosophy of technology, and information security.

Rocca's current research generally focuses on the history of mathematics and cryptology, and how the disciplines are interconnected.

Copies of the panelists' research papers and monographs are available in the Ruth Haas Library on the Midtown campus. The discussion is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested.
