What Does a Failed Girder Look Like?

Here it is, the roof support that failed at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Danbury during the heavy winter snows of 2010-2011.

This photograph, with hundreds of others, is displayed on the wall of shame in City Hall.

Permit Center Coordinator Sean Hearty said Wednesday work is underway on the roof, an addition, electrical work and framing. Inspectors were going to check the rough electric work and framing Wednesday.

No one in City Hall would say when the work would be completed or when the center might open. In addition to fixing the roof, which is nearly complete except for the trim, the center included an addition to the repair project.
