Woman's Club of Danbury/New Fairfield (WCDNF) Supports our Community and our Veterans

Members of WCDNF have started its new club year in support of many local and international charities and in celebration of our veterans.

In September through November, the various committees of WCDNF responded to our community members in need of assistance. Members donated laundry and cleaning supplies, paper products and diapers in the value of $808 to Home Essentials Pantry (formerly Marketplace). Donations of diapers were given to the Daily Food Pantry in the value of $1200. In support of the Center of Empowerment and Education's (C.E.E) mission to end domestic violence, members joined in a "Safe Walk" and raised $550 for C.E.E. Members worked together to create twenty No-Sew blankets for the residents of Danbury's Regional Hospice. Each hand-made blanket brings with it support and good wishes.

Because we are a global community, WCDNF supports the program, Shot-At-Life. It is an initiative of the United Nations Foundation that supports the global health campaign aimed at increasing access to life saving vaccines for children in developing countries. Members donate to this program four times a year. To date, $571 has been donated in support of this life-saving program.

To assist the Dorothy Day program in meeting the needs of the homeless and families struggling financially, members donated new or gently used winter outerwear for men, women and children. The hats, shoes, jackets, coats, scarfs and gloves will be most welcomed as we welcome winter.

In honor and recognition of female U.S.Veterans, members held a bake sale. The proceeds raised in the amount of $405 will fund the Connecticut Honor Flight for one our our veterans. It is part of the National Flight network whose mission is to honor America's veterans for the sacrifice and service. Through fully funded one-day trips to Washington D.C., veterans are given the opportunity to visit memorials dedicated to them, share a meal with fellow veterans and experience a celebratory sendoff and heartfelt "Welcome Home" upon their return.

Aware of the special needs of families in the holiday season, members donated to the Thanksgiving Food Basket for the New Hope Baptist Church Thanksgiving program. Food items of stuffing, canned vegetables, bread, cake and pie mixes, coffee and tea and gift cards to local grocery stores will help to make family celebrations brighter.

Adding to the fun and celebration of our community, a team of members of WCDNF participated in the annual scarecrow exhibition for the City Center of Danbury. This year, the WCDNF team created "Wonder Woman". She proudly joined the other scarecrows at City Center Danbury.

It is the mission of the Woman's Club of Danbury/New Fairfield to support our community and help our neighbors. Together we are a happier and healthier community.
