DARIEN, CT — The Darien Nature Center will host its eighth annual "Fireside" fundraising event on Oct. 11, offering food, drinks and a lively atmosphere to benefit its wide-ranging programs.

Organizers say the event serves as the nature center's major fundraiser of the year, supporting care for 22 animal species, educational programming for adults and children, and outreach to underserved communities.

Proceeds also fund a climate change and sustainability curriculum in Darien schools and help maintain the nature center's building, which is free and open to the public six days a week.
