DAC Visual Arts Studio Launches Adult Workshops With Renowned Local Artists Carolyn Childs & Lenny Moskawitz

Encaustic Workshop 3 Part Series With Carolyn Childs & Floral Paint-A-Long Workshop With Lenny Moskawitz

Darien, CT - The Darien Arts Center is expanding its lineup of creative opportunities this fall with two engaging adult art workshops designed to spark inspiration, encourage exploration, and welcome artists of all levels.

Encaustics Painting Workshop Series

The DAC will host a three-part Encaustics Painting Workshop Series on October 8, October 22, and November 11 from 7:00–8:30 p.m., led by Darien-based artist and educator Carolyn Childs.

Encaustic painting—also known as hot wax painting—is one of the world’s most ancient and luminous mediums, rediscovered by contemporary artists for its texture, durability, and vibrant finish. Participants will learn techniques using hot wax and pigments, experiment with painting on multiple surfaces, and complete five small encaustic paintings to take home.

Carolyn Childs, a Connecticut native, is a certified K–12 art teacher with extensive experience teaching in schools, healthcare institutions, and arts centers across the region. She brings a strong background in mindfulness and the healing arts to her teaching, offering participants a restorative, hands-on creative experience.

Large-Scale Painting with Lenny Moskowitz

For those interested in working on a bigger canvas, the DAC presents a one-day Large-Scale Painting Workshop with Connecticut painter Lenny Moskowitz on October 11 from 10:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

In this guided “paint along,” participants will create their own composition while working on a 30”x30” canvas provided by the DAC. The workshop welcomes all skill levels—whether you’re a beginner or looking to stretch your abilities by working larger. Moskowitz emphasizes exploration and playfulness, ensuring that every participant’s work is unique.

All materials—including canvas, paint, and brushes—are provided, making it easy for attendees to simply bring themselves and enjoy the creative process.

A Growing Focus on Adult Workshops

“We’re excited to expand our adult programming with workshops that are creative, restorative, and accessible to all levels of experience,” said Lisa Koorbusch, the DAC's Visual Arts Director. “From encaustics to large-scale painting, these classes give adults a chance to explore new mediums, connect with inspiring artists, and enjoy the process of making art in a supportive community setting.”
