Darien Burglary Suspect With Ties To Multi-State Theft Ring Arrested: Police

The arrest stems from a break-in at a home in Darien nearly three years ago, police said.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien burglary suspect with ties to a multi-state theft ring was arrested late last month after a lengthy investigation, according to police.

Yefersson Estiwar Camero-Alzate, 31, of College Point in Queens, N.Y., was charged in Darien with third-degree burglary, conspiracy, second-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree larceny, an arrest report says.

The arrest stems from a break-in at a home in Darien nearly three years ago, police said.

On Jan. 28, 2023, at approximately 6:22 p.m., officers responded to a burglar alarm at a home on Maple Street.

The homeowner reported to police a broken first-floor window and the theft of a safe containing "a large amount of cash," police said.

Surveillance footage from the home captured two suspects entering the property prior to the alarm activation, police said.

"Further investigation revealed connections to a multi-state burglary ring involving suspects associated with the South American Theft Group," police said. "Collaborative efforts with the Nassau County Police Department and Stamford Police Department identified one of the three suspects as Yefersson Estiwar Camero-Alzate."

An arrest warrant was developed for Camero-Alzate, and he was recently arrested by Nassau County. He was extradited to Stamford and charged on Sept. 29 in Darien, police said.

Camero-Alzate was unable to post a $100,000 court-set bond. He's scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 10.
