In accepting the proclamation at Darien's Town Hall, Squadron Commander Jeffrey O. Brown said: "The Darien Sail & Power Squadron is dedicated to promoting safe boating in our community through classroom education and on-the-water training that counts. This proclamation is a powerful recognition of our efforts, and we are very grateful for the Town’s support."
Commander Brown noted that Darien has over 16 miles of shoreline and more than 500 boats and paddle-craft on its shores. The Town's increasingly broad access to maritime activities has been accompanied by a respect for safety and sensible use of the environment, which the Squadron endorses through its training and community support.
