Darien Police Honor Officer Who Was Killed 98 Years Ago

DARIEN, CT -- Police on Tuesday honored a Darien officer who died in the line of duty 98 years ago.

On Nov. 18, 1927, officer William E. Bowman was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic on the Post Road, according to the Darien Police Department.

Bowman, a father of six children, had over a year of service with the department when he died, the DPD said. He was the first Darien police officer to be killed in the line of duty.

Per order of Police Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr., mourning bands are to be worn by sworn personnel on Nov. 18 in remembrance of Bowman.
