Darien Police Honor Officer Who Was Killed 98 Years Ago

Mourning bands are worn by sworn personnel on Nov. 18 in remembrance of the officer.

DARIEN, CT -- Police on Tuesday honored a Darien officer who died in the line of duty 98 years ago.

On Nov. 18, 1927, officer William E. Bowman was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic on the Post Road, according to the Darien Police Department.

Bowman, a father of six children, had over a year of service with the department when he died, the DPD said. He was the first Darien police officer to be killed in the line of duty.
