Policer said the man was linked to multiple similar thefts across several states.

DARIEN, CT — A New York City man who police say stole over $6,000 worth of cosmetic and beauty products over two occasions from CVS in Darien was arrested earlier this month.

Fernando Fernandez, 45, of Queens, N.Y., was charged with two counts of third-degree larceny, according to an arrest log from police.

On May 8, officers responded to the CVS on the Post Road for a reported larceny in progress.

The store manager reported that man, later identified as Fernandez, left the store with approximately $3,997 in unpaid merchandise consisting of cosmetic and beauty products, police said, noting surveillance footage showed Fernandez filling bags with items and leaving without paying.

Police said a review of nearby incidents found a similar theft at a CVS in Greenwich on May 5 involving the same suspect.

"Through a law enforcement information sharing platform, Fernandez was linked to multiple similar thefts across several states," police said, noting incidents in Connecticut and New Jersey.

On Aug. 7, officers were again called to the CVS in Darien for a larceny, and the store manager reported a loss of approximately $2,185 worth of cosmetic and beauty products, police said.

"The suspect matched the description of a subject previously identified in a similar May 8, 2025, theft at the same location," police added.

An arrest warrant for Fernandez was obtained, and police found he had been arrested in Massachusetts on similar charges, police said.

On Dec. 3, after waiving extradition, detectives transported Fernandez from Massachusetts to Darien where he was charged.

Fernandez was being held on a $100,000 court-set bond. He's scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Dec. 22.
