(Another town-led effort to clean up marine debris on Darien's shores recently took place. The results were so notable that I just couldn't help but follow up on the previous marine debris article that was posted on October 31.)
Two weeks ago, for two hours on Sunday morning, November 9th, eleven volunteers comprised of Darien's Coastal Commission and local residents picked up a total of 591 pounds of trash from Darien's coast. Two hours. Eleven People. 591 Pounds of Trash! And on the very same shores that had been similarly cleaned-up six months prior!

It's staggering how much trash is winding up in our local waters and being deposited on our coasts.
It's heartening what a difference a small group of people can make in just 2 hours.

And lastly, it's inspiring that the Coastal Commission had additional help on this recent effort: a member of Darien High School's Eco-Citizens Club, two members of the Darien Boat Club, and a hard-working father and daughter team. Thank you all! Together we can make a difference.
