DARIEN, CT — Darien's town government TV station, Darien TV79, is launching a new show that will focus on the work of the police department.

Titled "Police Blotter," the show will air in regular rotation woth the station's other programming of government meetings.

The name comes from the weekly updates from the Darien Police Department about criminal activity in town, reports of identity theft, unlocked car break-ins, speeding and motor vehicle stops as shared with the Darien Police Commission.

"Many years ago the Darien newspapers would print the ‘blotter’ each week and it was always must-reading. But since our local papers’ demise, we want to highlight the department’s work in this new video feature," said Darien TV79 Program Director Jim Cameron in a news release.

"We hope this new show will give residents a sense of the Police Department’s varied work and help them also understand their role in preventing crime.

"I often quote 70s TV advertisers Sy and Marcy Syms and their tagline of 'an educated consumer is our best customer.' That is also true of a professional public safety agency," said Darien Police Chief Don Anderson in a news release.

"Your Darien police officers are service-oriented above all and we certainly are proud of the work we do in keeping the town safe. We are always ready to share with the public what we actually do, why we do it the way we do it, and, on occasion, why we don’t do certain things," Anderson added. "Ongoing dialogue and connectivity with the public we serve is, as always, the absolute best course of action to the mutual benefit of both the public and the organization."
