Superintendent Search Underway In Darien

The Darien Board of Education this week voted to create a personnel search committee to find a successor to Dr. Alan Addley.

DARIEN, CT — The search is underway for a new school superintendent in Darien, after the Board of Education this week voted to create a personnel search committee to identify and recommend an interim or successor to Dr. Alan Addley, who recently announced his impending retirement.

"We, the Darien Board of Education, extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Addley for his six years of dedicated service to our students, staff and community, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors," Board Chair Jill McCammon said during a Monday special meeting, which was held virtually. The meeting is available to watch on Darien TV79.

"The search process will commence immediately, with an anticipated effective start date of a new or interim superintendent of schools on July 1, 2025. The board is committed to keeping the community informed throughout the search process leading up to July and beyond," McCammon added.

Addley announced on March 27 that he will step down, effective June 30, "or on a mutually agreed upon date," after spending 41 years in education, including 17 as a superintendent.

Addley noted a desire "to spend quality time with family and pursue other endeavors."

Before coming to Darien in 2019, Addley was the head of the Granby Public Schools District for 11 years.

A native of Northern Ireland, Addley was a professional soccer player at one point and began his educational career as a mathematics teacher.
