Unoccupied Canoe Found In Darien, Authorities Search Waters For Potential Occupants: Police

A multi-agency search of local waters was conducted Tuesday, according to Darien police.

DARIEN, CT — Darien police on Tuesday responded to a report of an unmanned, overturned canoe that was found on the shore of Pratt Island, prompting a search of surrounding waters for potential occupants.

Darien Det. Sgt. Mauricio Vigil told Patch a comprehensive search was conducted by the Darien police and fire departments, the U.S. Coast Guard and neighboring fire and police agencies from Norwalk, Westport and Stamford.

No individuals were located, and the Coast Guard has suspended the search pending any future reports of a missing person, Vigil said.

Police posted to Facebook a video of the yellow canoe - which appears to be a Dumoine model manufactured by Swift.

The video shows a paddle on board, as well as a bag of unopened potato chips.
