After Half Century Of 'Exceptional' Service: East Haven Police Announce Bruce Scobie's Retirement

EAST HAVEN, CT — After dedicating half a century to public safety, East Haven police Bruce Scobie is retiring, the department announced.

Scobie began his career in 1976 as an East Haven auxiliary police officer and was hired full-time in February 1978, police said.

Over the course of his "distinguished career," he served in many capacities, including Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant, and Detective Sergeant, ultimately leading the Detective Bureau until his retirement in 2012, the department shared.

Following his formal retirement, Scobie continued his commitment to the EHPD as a Supernumerary Officer, or part-time officer, for an additional 13 years, bringing his total service to nearly five decades, police said.

"We extend our sincere appreciation to Bruce for his exceptional service, professionalism, and dedication to the Department and the Town of East Haven," police wrote. "While he will be greatly missed, we know he will remain a familiar presence in our community through his active involvement in several civic organizations. Please be sure to greet him when you see him around Town."
