Driver Involved In 3 Separate Crashes Identified By East Haven Police

Police said the man was involved in three separate crashes.

EAST HAVEN, CT — The driver in Monday’s multi-vehicle motor vehicle accident has been identified as Richard Lombardi, 67, of East Haven, and he remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, said East Haven police spokesperson Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.

The other drivers involved in the series of collisions — Hemingway and Dodge avenues, at Coe Avenue, vehicles pulling out of Diamond Marine, along Coe at Silver Sands Road — all received minor injuries and have all been released from the hospital, Murgo said.

"No charges have been filed against Lombardi as yet, as this investigation remains ongoing," he said.

Police said the incident began at 4:06 p.m. Monday when the driver of a Ford F350 was involved in a crash with a vehicle at the intersection of Hemingway Avenue and Dodge Avenue, police said.

"The Ford F350 continued south on Coe Avenue, causing an accident with a second vehicle pulling out of Diamond Marine, 650 Coe Avenue," police said at the time of the crash. "The operator of the truck continued on and caused a multi vehicle accident at the intersection of Coe Ave and Silver Sands Road. Multiple injuries have been reported and multiple vehicle occupants have been transported to area hospitals."

Roads near the crash scene were closed for several hours, police said.
