East Haven Hosts ADA 35th Anniversary Celebration At New Accessible Gazebo On Town Green

Center for Disability Rights chose Town's ADA-compliant Gazebo for Saturday event, noting its "perhaps most accessible stage in the state."

The town, in partnership with the Center for Disability Rights CT is hosting a community celebration marking the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act Saturday from noon to 2:30 p.m. on the East Haven Green with theater, activities, fun.

EAST HAVEN, CT — The town, in partnership with the Center for Disability Rights Connecticut is hosting a community celebration marking the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act Saturday from noon to 2:30 p.m. on the East Haven Green.

The event, themed “Removal of Barriers, Inclusion of People,” will celebrate East Haven’s ongoing
commitment to accessibility and inclusion, particularly the town’s recently reconstructed, ADA-compliant gazebo and Green.

"We’re honored that the Center for Disability Rights chose our Town Green for this celebration,"
East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora said. "When we rebuilt the gazebo, we made sure it reflected our belief that public spaces should be welcoming and accessible to everyone. To have that recognized at the state level means a great deal to us."

The Center for Disability Rights called East Haven’s Green, "Perhaps the most accessible in the state," Carfora said, adding the group praised the new gazebo as "the most accessible stage in Connecticut."

During the celebration, the organization will present a Certificate of Recognition and a cash gift to the Town to support continued improvements and beautification of the Green.

Event highlights include:
  • A live performance by The Wheel Life Theater Troupe from the Legacy Theatre of Branford, an original dramatization about the ADA and how it has impacted their lives.
  • The ADA Walk of Fame, celebrating advocates and community members who advance accessibility.
  • Pizza, ice cream, and family fun including cornhole, balloons, and pumpkin painting for kids.

"We’re thrilled to celebrate here in East Haven," said Marc Anthony Gallucci, Esq., CEO and Chief Advocate of the Center for Disability Rights. "The new gazebo represents what true inclusion looks like—an equal opportunity for everyone to be seen and heard on stage."

Residents from across the region are invited to attend, enjoy the festivities, and join East Haven in celebrating the spirit and legacy of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
