Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Clement DeLucia and Albert DeLucia: Our family has proudly served the community for over 90 years. Since our grandparents first opened the doors of our original funeral home in 1931, we have remained deeply rooted in the local community
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Clement DeLucia and Albert DeLucia: Clement L. DeLucia has been a licensed funeral director for 52 years, and his brother Albert M. DeLucia for 43 years. As grandsons of Albert L. Porto Sr. and Mary Connelly Porto, who founded the business, we represent the third generation of our family to serve the community through Porto Funeral Homes, currently located in East Haven and West Haven. Growing up, we were deeply inspired by the example our grandparents set, and we later had the honor of working alongside our mother, Anne Marie Porto DeLucia, who carried on their legacy with great compassion. Therefore, it felt only natural for both of us to follow in their footsteps and continue the tradition of service that our grandparents started back in 1931.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Clement DeLucia and Albert DeLucia: We often remind families to take their time and make decisions that feel right for them - not to feel pressured by timelines or expectations. Grief is personal and so is how you choose to honor a loved one. We're here to support and guide, not rush.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Clement DeLucia and Albert DeLucia: The most fulfilling part of what we do is knowing we've helped families through a very difficult moment with care and dignity. When someone tells us that we made the process a little easier or helped them feel at peace, that’s when we know we’ve done our job correctly.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Clement DeLucia and Albert DeLucia: What truly sets us apart is our longstanding commitment to family and community. We're not part of a large corporation - we’re a family helping other families. Generations of families have trusted us because they know they’ll be treated with respect, warmth, and a personal touch that comes from nearly a century of experience and dedication.
