Man Charged After Undercover Sex Sting: East Haven PD

EAST HAVEN, CT — A North Branford man was charged after he attempted to meet up with a 14-year-old girl who was actually an undercover police officer, according to police.

Halilil Demiroz, 37, was messaging with the undercover officer on an online text messaging app, said Capt. Joseph Murgo, police spokesman.

Demiroz attempted to befriend the fictious 14-year-old, and then turned the conversation sexual, Murgo said. He then suggested the two meet up in East Haven to engage in sexual acts.

Demiroz agreed to meet with the fictious teenager in the parking lot of a Main Street apartment complex, Murgo said.

He was taken into custody by East Haven police and charged with enticing a minor by computer, risk of injury to a minor and criminal attempt to commit second-degree sexual assault. He was released on a $150,000 bond.
