ID Released Of Man Who Died After Falling From E-Bike In East Haven: Police

A passerby found the bicyclist unresponsive, called 911, and performed CPR until medics arrived, according to police.

UPDATE: In an update, police said Frederic Sternberg, Jr., 65, of East Haven, was the person who died after falling from his electric bike.

"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they navigate this heartbreaking loss," police said Thursday afternoon.


EAST HAVEN, CT — A 65-year-old man died after falling from his e-bike Wednesday afternoon in East Haven, according to police.

East Haven police and fire department personnel responded around 3:25 p.m. on Aug. 13 to the area of Mill Street and Foxon Road (Route 80) on the report of an unresponsive 65-year-old man who had fallen from his bicycle, according to police.

Police said East Haven Fire Department medics immediately began performing life-saving measures before taking the man to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

“Surveillance video showed the bicyclist traveling northbound on Mill Street on an e-bike when he stopped to pick up what appeared to be a 2x4 left in the roadway,” police wrote in a news release. “As the bicyclist attempted to continue riding while balancing the 2x4, he lost his balance and fell off the bike, tumbling down an embankment, sustaining severe injuries.”

“It should be noted that no other vehicles or individuals were involved in this unfortunate accident,” police wrote. “We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Police said the victim’s identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
