Phone Scam Has Caller Claiming To Be East Haven Police From Police Department, A 'Spoofed' Number
Scam callers claimed to be an East Haven officer, and even East Haven police chief, and attempted to get their banking information: PD
EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven police have received reports from residents saying they've gotten calls with a "spoofed number – the number from the Police Department," police wrote on social media.
According to police, in the case of one complaint to police about the calls, a caller claimed to be an East Haven Police Department officer attempted to get their banking information.
"As we were preparing this alert, another resident called in reporting the same thing, although this time the caller was allegedly the 'Chief of Police.' The scammer provided an incorrect badge number and fake case number," police said.

"In some calls, the caller stated a package of fentanyl was reportedly going to be delivered," police said. "These calls are fraudulent and appear to be attempting to scam residents."
In a "scam alert" message to the community, police reminded folks what to do.

"Please remember, if a stranger calls you asking for your banking information or other personal information, its most likely a scam. If you are ever in doubt, ask the caller for their name and badge number and then end the call and call into our Dispatch Center at 203-468-3820. They will be able to confirm if an officer contacted you."
