Storm Recovery Update: Just About Out Of The Woods, East Haven
The latest on Tropical Storm Isaias power restoration, clean-up and recovery efforts, and what help is available if still without power.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Joseph A. Carfora heaped praise on East Haven public works staffers, and fire and police for their "around-the-clock" work on Tropical Storm Isaias recovery efforts.
And, the good news on the power front is that while having more than 500 still without, United Illuminating was able to restore electricity to more than 6,000.
As of Friday at 4 p.m., 527 of 13,460 UI customers were without power. At the worst of the outage, almost 7,000 were in the dark.

"The department of public works has been working through the nights as they continue to clear roads, remove fallen trees and clean-up of after Tropical Storm Isaias," Carfora said. "Since the start of the week, Public Works was gearing up for the aftermath of Isaias and have been successful."
Carfora said Superintendent of Operations Charlie Coyle, "has been on the front lines with his department through the entire cleanup process. The hard work of this department has been shining this week. Even throughout the storm, our Public Work's Department was on the streets with crews making roads safe to pass, responding to calls and assisting residents with safety concerns."

“They have been unbelievable and working around the clock," Carfora quoted Coyle as saying.
Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli and Police Chief Ed Lennon said the fire department responded to 82 calls for service, mostly related to downed wires and / or trees, and the East Haven Police responded to 92 calls for service during the same time period.
Dumping storm debris
The 250 Commerce St. landfill is open Saturday from 8:30 to 3 and there's no fee for brush or limbs by residents from storm debris in their own yards, but no disposal of roofing materials will be permitted, and no contractors.
Urgent device charging & water
Given the vast majority of residents have their power back on, for people that do not and have an urgent need for device charging or water, they should call the Senior Center at 203-468-3277for charging and the East Haven Fire Department routine number at (203) 468-3840 for water.
