Woman Found In Middle Of Road Dies, East Haven Police Say: UPDATE

EAST HAVEN, CT — In an early Sunday afternoon update, Police Lt. Joseph M. Murgo said that the woman involved in a serious pedestrian accident has died.

"The chain of events leading up to her death are still unclear. The South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit along with the East Haven Police Investigative Services Division are still on scene investigating. The road is still closed but is expected to open soon. Anyone with information regarding this investigation or who may have been traveling Frontage Road westbound at around 6 a.m. this morning is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Paul Decrosta at 203-410-0537."

Initial story: EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven Police are investigating an accident which left a woman seriously injured Sunday morning. The accident occurred on Frontage Road westbound in front of Carmax.

On Sunday, officers responded to Carmax for reports of a body in the roadway. Upon officer’s arrival, they found a woman suffering from serious injuries in the middle of the roadway, police said.

East Haven Fire Department personnel arrived and treated the female victim on scene before rushing her to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Police Lt. Joseph M. Murgo said.

"At this point, the chain of events leading up to the discovery of a body in the roadway is unclear. No other vehicles remained on scene and it is unclear if the female victim was struck by another car while walking along Frontage Road or if she was thrown from a vehicle," Murgo said. "Frontage Road westbound remains closed while investigators are on scene trying to piece everything together. The victim’s current condition is unknown at this time. She will not be identified until next of kin is notified."
