My daughter Rachael is a Regional Planner for state of MA and I’ve learned a great deal about community planning from her that only added to my own experiences serving as a Commissioner for 6 years on Conservation Commission.
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Yes: Board of Selectman 2 terms (liaison to Ambulance & Emergency Services, Human Services, Conservation Commission & Library Board) Conservation Commission for 6 years, Library Planning Committee, Parent Action Task Force Committee
Why are you seeking this office?
As First Selectman I will lead our Board of Selectmen in focusing on the future of our town by supporting small businesses that bring the community together and preserving the character and charm of our town. Also I have always been and will continue to be a strong advocate for our Seniors. When I previously served on the Board of Selectmen I worked very hard supporting a future Senior Center. I traveled to many similar towns to tour their senior centers with the Chairman of the Senior Steering Committee. As a result of that work, today Ellington has a vibrant Senior Center that our town can be proud of.
Having raised a family in Ellington, I want to ensure other families feel connected to the community and supported.
I will also continue my unwavering support for Farm Land Preservation, Open Space and our beautiful trails. It’s important that we protect our community's natural assets, and support places for recreation all of which enhances our quality of life.
As First Selectman I believe it is essential to work with all members of the Board to achieve results in the best interest of the town.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
Property taxes on home owners. Attract and encourage small business that follows the Plan Conservation and Economic Development.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
My experiences give me a different perspective as a parent, volunteering in the school system as well as many days/evenings utilizing the sports fields.
As a Commissioner on Conservation, I understand the importance of open space. When I was a track coach volunteer, the kids and I enjoyed trail runs in the state forest that connects to our open space parcels.
Having served as a past Selectman I understand the role and responsibility. If elected as First Selectman I want to meet the needs of our community as it continues to grow with a common-sense approach.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
I would like more transparency.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I’ve managed a small business, I’ve served on Board of Selectman, as well as multiple town boards. I have a strong computer background. Most importantly I listen to our community and I know how to work well with others.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Life is about balance
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I have run four marathons which you learn perseverance, mental toughness and never giving up.
