Man Facing Gun Charges In Connection With Shenipsit Lake Incident In Ellington
A Manchester man is facing weapons charges after his arrest on a warrant in connection with an incident near Shenipsit Lake.

ELLINGTON, CT — A Manchester man is facing weapons charges after his arrest on a warrant last week in connection with an incident near Shenipsit Lake, state polie said.
The incident took place on June 19, 2024, according to a warrant. At 4:31 p.m. that day, state police were dispatched to Shenipsit Lake Road in Ellington after receiving a report of a man in a pickup truck covered in blood from the waist down, according to a warrant.
The caller also told state police the man could be a "missing person" named "Jake," according to a warrant.

When they arrived at the scene, they encountered a man passed out inside the running truck, which was backed into a tree line, according to a warrant. State troopers then opened the door, woke the man up, asked the man if he were "Jake," and the man answered that he was, according to a warrant.
The "blood" was spilled energy drink, according to a warrant.

The man, who said he was there for "a couple of days," was eventually taken to an area hospital for observation, according to a warrant.
A warrant shows several weapons and types of ammunition were discovered in the truck, including:
- A Diamond Back 5.56 DB15 rifle
- A Savage Axis 270-caliber rifle
- Multiple 12-gauge shot gun rounds
- Multiple 5.56 caliber rounds
- Multiple .38 caliber rounds
- Multiple .38 caliber rounds
- Multiple 270 caliber rounds
- Nine high-capacity magazines loaded with 5.56 caliber rounds
- A USMC knife with a 7-inch blade
- One "SOG" knife with a 5-inch blade
- One hatchet
The man, identified as Jacob 30-year-old Cawthorn, was charged with:
- Illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle
- Illegal possession of an assault weapon
- The illegal purchase of a high-capacity magazine
- Illegally carrying firearms while under the influence
He posted a $10,000 bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court on June 24.
