SOMERS, CT — Periodically, Ellington-Somers Patch will post an old photo with a brief story behind it, as well as a peek at what the property looks like today.

For more than six decades beginning in 1954, a tiny strip plaza at 625-629 Main Street always contained a pharmacy. In 2005, Kari Ann and David Guerrette took over Somers Pharmacy - the only pharmacy in the town - and continued the tradition of caring, friendly, small-town service.

An online review of the business from 2012 reads, "The best service anywhere. All the staff is truly caring and concerned, always on time and 100 percent accurate. Also they employ the totally cutest cashiers I have ever seen."

Unfortunately, competition from large chain pharmacies in neighboring towns proved invincible, and in late December 2016, Somers Pharmacy closed and its prescriptions transferred to Rite Aid stores in Enfield and Stafford.

The space was vacant for more than three and a half years. It is now occupied by Sue's Shirt Creations, an embroidery and screen printing business owned by the husband-and-wife team of military veterans Chad and Michelle Wink.
