Report Ranks Best Suburbs in CT to Raise a Family
As a community, Ellington received an overall score of an A and Somers received an overall score of an A-.
Niche.com has ranked the “Best Suburbs to Raise A Family” in the United States and five Connecticut communities crack the top 100.
The report looks at a communities age demographics, school rankings, crime rates, affordable housing, access to child care, libraries and grocery stores.
According to the report, “A high ranking indicated that a suburb attracts young families with good schools and a safe community.”

It appears Niche.com believes that Westchester County is the best place in America to raise a family as three of the top 10 entrants are just to the west of Connecticut.
Scarsdale is voted No. 1 followed by Bronxville at No. 5 and Larchmont at No. 9.

Connecticut’s highest ranking community is Darien at No. 17 followed by Weston at No. 20, New Canaan, No. 51, Westport, No. 59, and Wilton at No. 62.
Niche.com also does a list just ranking Connecticut communities and after Darien, Weston, New Canaan, Westport, and Wilton, Simsbury is No. 6, Cheshire, No. 7, Glastonbury, No. 8, Madison, No. 9, and Easton at No. 10.
Rankings are interesting often for their omissions. Ellington and Somers don’t show up in the rankings, which includes 62 communities in Connecticut, which immediately calls into question the ranking system.
Despite the report not including Ellington and Somers among the top 62 best suburbs to raise a family in Connecticut, Niche.com is glowing in its review of the towns.
This is what it writes about Ellington, “Ellington Town is a suburb in Connecticut with 15,675 residents. It has very high home values, very high rent costs, and average unemployment levels. Its citizens generally have high education levels and very high income levels.”
Here’s what it writes about Somers, “Somers Town is a suburb in Connecticut with 11,447 residents. It has very high home values, high rent costs, and average unemployment levels. Its citizens generally have average education levels and high income levels.”
